CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Darlene Alderson
Canon: Mr. Robot
Canon Point: end of S02E10 (eps2.8_h1dden-pr0cess.axx).
Age: 24
Reference:
(cw : contains mentions of physical and psychological abuse, kidnapping/child abduction, parental death, animal abuse, drug abuse and, of course, spoilers.)
Darlene's Wikia & MR. ROBOT Wiki ( Episode summaries -- I think they contain more compiled relevant information than the main Wiki. )
Personality:
Darlene's tough as nails. She's been through more than her fair share of shit and other trauma in her life that she's become a bit jaded and often cynically sarcastic about most things. She can come off abrasive and says whatever the hell comes to mind. Even if that lands her in trouble with a group of drug dealers desperate to try and break their friend and ringleader out of prison. Demanding that she and her brother, Elliot, figure out how to hack the prison system, lest they lose their lives. Her mouth always snaps off long before she can even think about what's coming out of it. She unknowingly hurts people, but doesn't have too much pride to not admit that she's wrong and apologize for it.
After telling Trenton that she's not all-in on their "project", she finds her later and apologizes for not seeing that Trenton's motivations may differ from hers, but they're still motivated the same nonetheless.
Hindsight 20/20, what can she say?
She's unafraid in the face of danger and Darlene's no stranger to finding herself in those situations. From being a small child almost willing to be abducted by an old woman, to frequently finding herself surrounded by Dark Army members who are threatening her life, and even witnessing them killing her boyfriend Cisco less than ten feet away from her. But she never backs down, she continues on with the work that her hacker collective FSociety is doing. She's in it for the bigger purpose, she knows what she is doing is for something bigger and she can't just back down.
Darlene can come off cold, rude, and sometimes she's far too blunt for her own good, but if Darlene is anything she's ferociously loyal. Her life growing up with her brother Elliot wasn't an easy one and the two of them were literally all each other had. They'd run away and hide from the abuse of their mother and their father in old movie theaters, sharing their deepest secrets and fears with one another. When she's kidnapped at the age of 5, she tells Elliot that the only thing that kept her from running away again was him. Darlene's heart might be a heavily guarded one, and a deeply scarred one, but it's one that loves and cares with every last ounce that it has. Her friends within FSociety become her second family and up until things become a widespread movement that she can't control, Darlene is loyal and honest to them over all else -- and they equally are to her in return. Keeping her grounded and making sure she doesn't dive headfirst into situations without any thought of the massive repercussions -- she wants to go through with the hack on Steel Mountain even after the Dark Army pulls out and Elliot has to talk her down from it, reminding her that all their work would be for nothing. Her loyalty for them only wavers when she realizes that their once small project has become far more dangerous than they'd ever imagined and she begins living in an FBI safehouse and helping with their investigation into FSociety, the Dark Army, and Whiterose.
Darlene considers herself a revolutionary. She loathes society (wasn't it obvious with a name like Fsociety?) and hates the hold that the giant corporations -- specifically ECorp, which quite literally controls almost every aspect of life -- and the top 1% of the top 1% have over the rest of the 99%. She not only wants to make things right by leveling the playing field and eliminating every last bit of debt anyone holds on to, but she wants to burn the entire system down to the ground. Abolish the capitalist society where ECorp is at the head and rebuild something better. She is driven and once she puts her mind to something there is no limit to how far she'll run with it. FSociety starts as nothing more than an idea on Halloween and expands into an entire movement with her as the leader. Even if that pressure and level of notoriety are more than she was ready for.
In her own words, Darlene would say that she happens to be really smart and good at things, and that couldn't be more true. She's definitely smarter than your average 24-year-old. She's not only an extremely talented hacker and coder, but she can think on her feet and doesn't crumble when the pressure is on and she has to get something done. She and Elliot break their way into the server farm for Cyprus National Bank and manage to pull all the information they need in 40 minutes, while remaining completely silent in the server room and keeping the security cameras disabled for long enough. Even when they're nearly spotted, they manage their way out without losing it. She only ever falls victim to the panic of it all when she's finally alone, or with her brother.
Abilities:
﹅ Darlene has no physical powers outside of those of a normal human. She possesses no enhanced strength or any other abilities, but she is extremely skilled when in relation to technology, and more specifically hacking. She is one of the leaders of the hacker group known as fsociety. She is able to write her own programs (both malicious and otherwise -- usually malicious), infiltrate network systems, and disable various other advanced security protocols.
﹆ She's also pretty good at ballet and skeeball.
Personal Effects:
﹅ the clothing on her back ( black tank top, black double breasted military style jacket, white/red striped shorts, black boots.)
﹆ book bag containing; one FSociety mask, one seemingly blank VHS tape, one package of cigarettes, one copy of Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita, one set of ballet clothes, personal/custom built laptop computer with charger.
Prized Possession:
﹅ One VHS copy of The Careful Massacre of the Bourgeoisie (cw: drug use, murder, gore, nudity, bad 80's horror) -- the movie her and her brother watched every Halloween since they were kids.
